The Touman: Stars, Binaries, Trinaries, Clusters, and Galaxies
A Clan’s touman is its complete military establishment, organized around formations whose names and structures differ sharply from those of Inner Sphere armies. This episode explains how Points combine into five-Point Stars, how Stars form Binaries and Trinaries, how several of those formations create a Cluster, and how multiple Clusters form a Galaxy. It also examines frontline units, second-line formations, Provisional Garrison Clusters, and solahma troops, showing how equipment quality and social prestige vary across the same military. Different Clans adapt the common structure to their own doctrine: Jade Falcon favors powerful frontline formations, Ghost Bear integrates large numbers of Elementals, Cloud Cobra emphasizes aerospace strength, and Hell’s Horses gives conventional vehicles greater importance. The organizational elegance can obscure the logistics behind it. OmniMechs, fighters, Elementals, and WarShips still require technicians, spare parts, transportation, and supplies.
