VTOLs and Conventional Aircraft
VTOLs and conventional aircraft occupy the vast tactical space between ground formations and aerospace fighters operating from atmosphere to orbit. This episode explains why the two categories perform different missions. VTOLs can hover, use valleys and buildings for concealment, land in confined areas, move troops, scout routes, evacuate casualties, and provide rapid fire support. Conventional fixed-wing aircraft operate faster across larger areas, making attack runs, intercepting enemies, and striking rear areas while remaining limited to atmospheric flight. Both depend heavily on maintenance, fuel, ammunition, trained crews, usable bases, and local air-defense conditions.
