What the Star League Left Behind
The Star League survived its own destruction through technology, institutions, ruins, myths, and unresolved claims to legitimacy. This episode examines the many forms of that inheritance, from HPG networks, military bases, universities, and industrial systems to lost weapons and forgotten data caches scattered across former Hegemony space. The Great Houses used Star League memory to justify ambition while fighting wars that destroyed much of what the League had built. ComStar preserved selected technologies and presented itself as guardian of interstellar civilization. Kerensky’s exiles transformed the SLDF legacy into Clan society, while later leaders repeatedly attempted to restore a Star League in name or substance. The episode also considers why the period became an idealized golden age despite conquest in the Periphery, dynastic inequality, and structural weakness. The Star League left no uncontested successor, but it created the political language, technological benchmark, and historical dream against which every later age of BattleTech would measure itself.
